New super-resolution STED microscope in Tolić Lab

sted 1 zelenoTolić Lab acquired a state-of-the-art STED microscope worth 4.6 million HRK which will enable much new and exciting research to be carried out at Tolić Lab.

The purchase of this microscope was made possible thanks to the grant awarded to the project team lead by dr. Iva Tolić for the project IPSted – Inovative microscopy protocols for interdisciplinary research in biomedicine, funded from the European Regional Development Fund.

Stimulated Emission Depletion (STED) microscopy is a super-resolution fluorescence microscopy technique and one of the methods of overcoming the limitations of light microscopes in studying the structure of matter of extremely small size. By integrating the STED microscopy into research, Tolić Lab, which relies on the use of various microscopy techniques, will further expand its capacity to conduct interdisciplinary research on principles underlying the mitotic spindle assembly and function. The high resolution and power of the STED microscope allows a detailed observation of the cell structure, which is of immense importance because cell division is a very dynamic process.
