Tolić Lab at the EMBO Centrosome Workshop in Lausanne

Members of the Tolić Lab participated in the EMBO Workshop “Centrosomes: From fundamentals to diseases”, held from 1–4 September 2026 at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland.

Lovro Gudlin was selected to present a flash talk highlighting our research on centrosome clustering and the mechanisms that determine the selection and stabilization of spindle axes in tetraploid cells. In his flash talk, Lovro used the Hungry Hungry Hippos game as a playful analogy to illustrate how competing spindle axes vie for a limited pool of kinetochores during mitosis.

Mario Đura presented a short talk entitled “Centrosome age-dependent positioning at the start of mitosis controls the alignment efficiency of polar chromosomes.” His work investigates how the age of centrosomes and their positioning at mitotic entry influence the ability of polar chromosomes to align correctly, providing new insight into the mechanisms that ensure accurate chromosome segregation.

The workshop brought together researchers from across the centrosome field to discuss recent advances in centrosome and centriole biology, microtubule organization, cell division, and disease. It also provided an opportunity for scientific exchange and discussions with researchers from the international centrosome community.
